Sulu's Tea Party

"Sulu's Tea Party"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My daughter came home from college and brought home her new Chinese Dwarf hampster named Sulu.  I told her I wanted to do a photo shoot of Sulu.

I remembered my daughter had a little teacup set when she was young, and I knew it would be the perfect size to put Sulu in.  Sulu did not cooperate to much.  She either wanted to stay in the teacup or she did not want to get in it.  We ended up getting several good shots.

This photo is a first for me.  I love my photos to be sharp, but in this photo I wanted to change the clarity to make the photo appear soft.  The cat now looks peaceful as though he dreaming.

Divine Appointment

"Divine Appointments"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography
While I was at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia on Monday, I heard an owl deep in the woods near the back of the garden.  I contemplated finding the owl, but what were my chances of finding him especially if he did not call anymore?  So, I did not try.  Yesterday, I heard the owl call again, but this time I heard another owl answer back.  I again contemplated, but it was very brief.  I knew it was my best shot, because they were both calling each other.  I quickly packed all my gear and headed into the woods.  Of course, I never heard him call again.  Again, what were my chances of finding an owl deep in the woods?
So, I prayed and asked the Lord to help me find the owl.  I was walking at a pretty fast pace, when I suddenly stopped in my tracks.  He is in a tree that had fallen over the creek which was about twenty feet in front of my head!  I took one shot, and he flew into another tree.  I took several shots there, then he flew into the creek.
Two joggers came by and I told them about the owl in the creek.  One of them told me he was a juvenile, and that she has seen the adult in the area.
He stood in the water for a long time as we watched him.
My hands were shaking as I was photographing him because I was so excited......and my brain was not working straight!  I was changing my settings in the wrong way!   Because it was very dark in the woods, and since I have not had my camera very long, I could not figure out fast enough how to get a faster shutter speed.  But nonetheless, I like the way his head looks like a tornado!
He enjoyed taking his bath and then rested as his feathers started to float in the water:)
He then flew into a tree because I moved my tripod and it made a lot of noise.
Thank you Jesus for my divine appointment!

Lucky

"Lucky"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Meet Lucky a wild baby rabbit.  My neighbor showed the rabbit to me as the rabbit was running through his yard. In a blink, a feral, neighbor cat took off after him.  I was yelling at the cat as I chased him in my bedroom shoes, and the cat was chasing the rabbit.

The rabbit hopped in a neighbor's heavy wooded, empty lot, and the cat pursued.  As I was running towards the lot, I could not see if the cat got the rabbit.  I peered through the brush and saw the rabbit in the cat's mouth.  I stomped my foot and yelled at the cat, and he dropped the rabbit.

I dug through the brush not knowing the state the rabbit would be in.  I saw him laying on the ground, and I picked him up.  There was a 3 inch cut through the rabbit's fur exposing his skin.  The opening in the fur was also about 2 inches wide.  He did not appear to have any other injuries.

I took the rabbit back to my house, and my husband helped me doctor him up.  We put Neosporin on the opening and pulled the fur back over his skin.  To hold the fur in place, we used a butterfly Band-Aid.  I made up a basket to put him in so we could keep him for a awhile until he seemed better.

The rabbit's pupils did not seemed dilated, but I knew he was shaken and maybe in shock.  I held him for a while stroking his head and gave him a kiss.  My husband said he appeared to be better, and we should go ahead and let him go.  I wanted to take pictures first.  Just that morning, I as in my backyard looking for the rabbit I saw earlier so I could photograph him.

I took some pictures with my husband holding him because I knew as soon as we put him down, he would run.  We decided to let him go in the backyard so the cat would not get him.  I set up my tripod and focused where my husband was going to place him.  When he sat the rabbit down, he did not move.  Maybe he was getting his bearings.  The rabbit (which I named Lucky) let me take a lot of pictures before he bolted away.  I could not find where he ran, and hope one day I will see him again!   That is so Jesus, letting that sweet rabbit sit there as I photographed him!

A Bump In The Road

"A Bump In The Road"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

As we were driving through remote grass and dirt roads of the Altamaha Wildlife Management area, we came upon this little guy.  He did not really look like he was going anywhere.  He was just a bump in the road.  It was a skinny road, but we had enough room to go around him.

Too Cute!

"Too Cute!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I found a baby chipmunk at the Botanical Garden this week.  I have never seen a baby chipmunk before.  It was tiny and too cute.

I followed him around for a while, and then he went into his first hole.  I set up my camera and waited for him to come out.  He did this two other times.  It tickled me to death to watch him and get to photograph him!

Ready To Fire

I have never had the opportunity to observe a baby goat (kid) nursing.  The baby goat aggressively jabbed at the mother's udders repeatedly while it was feeding.  I felt sorry for the mother goat.

"Protection"

I love photographing chipmunks and sometimes patience is needed to 'capture' them!  When they run under a rock for safety, I just sit and wait until they come back out.  They then slowly peer out of hiding and check to see if it is safe.

But as for me, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety."

Undivided Attention

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia had a great exotic bird and reptile show Saturday.  Exotic Paradise brought a variety of different creatures and birds.  I enjoyed having a Blue and Gold Macaw's undivided attention after the show while I was taking photos:)  I think he enjoyed the spotlight!

A Life Saved

"A Life Saved "
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I went to the State Botanical Garden today to capture a photo for The Digital Photography School's weekly photo challenge.  This week's theme is nature.

I was getting ready to start my photo shoot when I thought I saw a dead bird in the middle of the road to the parking lot.   I got some sticks and went to move it to the side so it would not get run over.  As I got close, I noticed it was a bat, and it was still breathing!

I met Jordan and Maggie in the parking lot and told them I wanted to photograph the bat.  Jordan held it for me.

The bat was shivering and cold.  After taking some photographs, I cupped the bat tightly in my hand trying to keep him warm.  Slowly, it shivered less and less.  He started to wiggle, so I put him on the ground.  The next thing we knew, he was in flight and fine!  He just needed a little warmth to get him going!  Had it not been for the challenge, I would not have gone to shoot, and the bat probably would have been run over by a car!

I hadn't even prayed yet to ask the Lord to bring to me what He wanted me to photograph.  He knows what I am thinking though!

Thanks Jordan and Maggie for helping me!!

You Can't Keep A Good Dog Down!

I tried three different times to put Ginger in the basket after she was asleep.  Each time she immediately woke up; she had a different photo shoot in mind!

Help!

"Help!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

This young bear ran up the tree to get away from his sibling.  The sibling waited at the bottom of the tree for a while.  The bear had a hard time getting back down the tree.  Eventually, he figured it out and got down.

New Life

I originally got my husband to stop on the side of the road because I saw a goat on top of a huge hay bale.  The goat jumped off before I could fire a shot, but I was thrilled to find two baby goats (kids) to photograph.  This baby goat still had its umbilical cord attached.

More Seeds Please!

"More Seeds Please!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I watched this chipmunk for a while as he scurried around below a bird feeder looking for sunflower seeds.  He would go beneath the leaves and pop his head up every once in a while.  After loading his cheeks with seeds, he would run across the street, down a dead tree, on a tree stump, then into his hole to deposit his goods.  He repeated this several times.  The feeders at the Botanical Garden are running very low on seeds, so he says, "More seeds please!"
