A Moment's Rest

“A Moment's Rest”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

There are many creeks in Cades Cove, Tennessee, where wildlife visit to get much-needed water and food.

Creeks are a great place to find barred owls. They are usually hunting there, but sometimes they need a moment's rest.

The Jesus Effect

“The Jesus Effect”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect—because one thing happens, something else happens?

In my photography, I would rather call it the Jesus effect. I ask the Lord to show me or bring to me what He wants me to photograph. So, the Lord may bring me something to photograph, which may lead to me photographing something even better.

This particular day at Radnor State Park, I enjoyed finding critters to photograph with another photographer. We found an owl earlier, and then I saw the cutest chipmunk taking nesting materials to his hole.

While I was photographing the chipmunk, a lady walked by, and I showed it to her. She said, “There is an owl around the corner.” After getting a better description of where he was, we ran like crazy in hopes we would find it.

He was right where she said. We were delighted to say the least. We photographed the owl a while, then he flew across the road and posed in a tree.

My friend was hoping he would fly down and grab a vole. After he left, the owl did try twice to catch something but failed both times. This was the parting shot he let me take.

Owl Jam

“Owl Jam”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Wildlife deserves the right of way in Cades Cove, Tennessee especially when a momma black bear and her cubs are crossing Cades Cove Loop Road.

The backed up traffic caused by tourist stopping to view the bears near the road is called a “bear jam.” It is expected and patience is required.

This particular day, the long line of cars seemed like it wrapped around the entire Great Smoky Mountains National Park. When we got to where the wildlife was spotted, it wasn’t a bear but a barred owl.

The owl was hunting for fish in a creek right off the main road. We were following it around like the paparazzi. The owl eventually flew across the road and posed for me on top of a dead tree.

Check out those talons!!

The photograph of him on the tree can be view here.

Payback!

Payback!
Juvenile barred owl

I stopped by a friend’s house to chat with him and his wife one evening. The sun had already set, and we visited in the dim light of their front porch.

He told me a barred owl and its baby had visited the night before and sat in their trees as the "baby" called to its "mom." While I was standing there, he saw the owl fly to the same tree.

It was super dark, and I could barely see the outline of the owl. I asked him if he had a high-powered flashlight. He rummaged through his house and then shone the light on him so I could photograph the owl.

Intermittingly, its mom was on a branch over my car. Crunch! The two-foot limb she was sitting on fell unto my car. There was a major issue—the car was brand new, and I only had it a week.

Thankfully, the branch was rotten and did not weigh much. It spared my windshield by a hair. A few small scratches now decorated my car, so I called out, “Stupid owl!” The owl was just paying me back for shining a light on her baby.

I don't even like to use the word stupid. That's just what came out!

Majestic Creature

"Majestic Creature"

Remember this little fellow I found back in 2016? The link to that post can be found here.

Well, I've got some neat news to share with you. I finally got the software to edit my videos, and on the day I took this barred owl's photograph, I also took video of him too.

In this video, you can see him peacefully resting under a tree.

In this YouTube video, I talk during the video explaining how the Lord helped me find the barred owl.
