The neat thing about photography is the photographer and photo have captured a moment in time that can never be created again:)

Gracious!

My son had an appointment with our dentist last week.  I talked to the dentist and told him our cookie and ice cream shop would be closing for good on Saturday. We also talked again about the pain I was having in my left arm.  He turned around and grabbed the vase of flowers off the counter and said they were for me.

He gets flowers each week to decorate his office and gives them away on Fridays.  I was in his office on a Tuesday, but they were going to be out of the office the rest of the week.  He was very gracious to give them to me!  I took them to my shop and displayed them in the kitchen for me to see all week.  It added a bit of sunshine to each day.

I took my camera to the shop to take some photos of the flowers.  The flowers were already beautiful, but I made the colors brighter to give the flowers a little pop:)  Thank you Dr. Hulsey!

"I'm A Tree"

I stalked this Great Blue Heron for a while.  Where he went, I followed.  Yes, there was running involved.  He flew away, and I ran in the direction he landed.

I noticed an opening where I hoped he would walk right where I had my camera and monopod set up.  As I was standing there, I said in my head, "I'm a tree.  I'm a tree. I'm a tree."  Hopefully he thought I was a tree, and I would not scare him.  I think it worked because he walked about fifteen feet in front of my camera!

I Promise....

"I Promise...."  Photo by Judy Royal Glenn

I first saw this Canadian Goose from the top of a hill.  At first glance, I saw feathers beside the goose and thought she had babies.  I walked down the hill to see "her" bone had been completely severed.  I'll call her a she.

So many thoughts ran through my mind.  Was she dehydrated?  Should I try to get some water for her and would she let me get close enough?  I felt so bad for her!  Before I walked away, I promised her I would send help.  I felt better because I saw her lean her head forward to get a drink.

That night I looked on the internet for the park's information.  I e-mailed three different people and attached a photo of the goose.  The next morning the Conservation District Coordinator sent me an e-mail that made me very happy.

He sent his staff went out to investigate and determine her health.  She has been seen at the park for two years and has escaped into the lake each time his staff tried to help her.  He told me her wing is damaged beyond repair, but she is not in any pain, and "she" moves around easily within the water.  The last thing he told me was if her health declined, they would render aid then, but doing so now would stress her and potentially cause further damage.

So, I will have a new friend I will look forward to seeing when I go to the lake:)  What name should I give her?

Stalked!

This Great Blue Heron did not know as he was stalking fish, he was being stalked by me!

This was the first image I captured.  I could barely see him.  I stalked this heron for over an hour, and followed him wherever he went.  I had a blast!  My technique is to take a few photos and then move closer.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.  I never know which photo will be my last, hence the reason for my technique.   It would be nice if birds weren't moving targets!

I was running to capture a photo of a Great Blue Heron in her nest when I came upon these Canadian Geese.  I quickly got my camera out to capture the beauty of the scenery.

I like this photo so much, I use it as my screen saver.  The lesson for me to remember is to be willing to deviate from my plans to possibly capture something more beautiful!

I spent my April Fool's Day taking 1,562 photos of birds and nature.  This is a new world record number of photos taken in one day for me.  I had a blast!!

This Wood Duck surprised me because I went quickly to a dock to take photos of Canadian Geese, and two Wood Ducks popped out from under the dock!  What a great surprise!  Made my day:)
