Flushed

"Flushed"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I was stalking a bird as usual, and this Great Egret was flushed out of a creek by two college girls while they were running.  He flew to the top of this bush which was a better shot.  Sometimes people can help your photos.

Tightrope Acrobat

My husband saw this Red-tailed Hawk (immature) on our trip back home yesterday.  My family helps me with my photography by spotting things for me.  We turned back around, and I started taking pictures of him while my husband kept moving the car closer and closer.

He then flew to the top of a power pole.

I was interrupting his dinner plans.

He was keeping a close eye on me.

He flew across the road and landed on a tree.  We moved closer, and he had enough and finally flew out of sight.

Merry Christmas Snowy Owl!

Merry Christmas Snowy Owl!
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

One of my favorite Christmas presents......to see the Snowy Owl on St. Simons Island on Christmas Day!  Again Jesus answered my prayer and let me see him:)

It was sunset, so there wasn't much light left.  I had been looking for him for two hours.  He had been hiding on Shipwatch's roof and suddenly popped up to the edge.  Thanks to Steve O'Cain and his family for spotting him!

The Snowy Owl started to spread his wings and flew right over my head!  My YouTube video: http://youtu.be/oUVAw2agTq0

The video is from far away, and it suddenly stops as I tried to take a photo as he flew overhead.  I panicked and did not think about getting a photo from the video:(

Sunrise With Mr. Snowy Owl

"Sunrise With Mr. Snowy Owl"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

An immature male arctic Snowy Owl has found his way to St. Simons Island, Georgia.  His visit is rare.  I heard where he had been hanging out and went to the beach for sunrise photos and to find the Snowy Owl.  I spotted him on top of a condo near the coast guard station around 7:30 in the morning.

The Gackles must not be very intelligent birds because they were pestering him.  I guess they did not think they could end up as the Snowy Owl's breakfast!  I love the glow of the morning sun on the owl.

I showed several people walking by where the Snowy Owl was hiding.  Two people said they viewed it as a wonderful Christmas present.  They asked me how I found him and besides knowing where to look, I told them I prayed and asked Jesus to help me find him!!

Lily

"Lily"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My cousin's dog Lily was my photo shoot yesterday.  She is a cute three year old Yorkshire Terrier.  With the help of her mom and treats the day went well.

She loves to run, and we let her have freedom to get out her puppy power.

It was like she was saying, "Okay, I've sat like you told me to.....where's my treat?"

Never Ending

"Never Ending"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I found a ladybug as I was exploring at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia last week.  I wanted to get a good shot of him on a stick.  When he would get off the stick, I would put it in front of him and he could climb on it again.  He probably thought the stick never ended,

Gesture?

"Gesture?"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

As I have been observing hummingbirds, I have noticed two different hummingbirds making this gesture.  I haven't been able to figure it out.  Is the hummer giving a sign to other hummers or simply stretching?

Even though this flower is "stained," I don't think it takes away from its beauty.....I think it actually adds to it.

Alone

"Alone"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

It was a cold drizzly morning when we passed this tree while driving down in a rural road.  I liked it so much I asked my husband if we could turn around, so I could take some photos.

While processing it, I played around with the color of the photo.

Untouched

"Untouched"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I usually do a good amount of post-processing to my photos.  For this photo I decided to basically leave it "Untouched."  I made a very small crop to take out a branch, but enjoyed the flower and photo as I remembered taking it.  It was just a very simple bush, but once I got down real low, I saw the simple beauty of the flower with the sky in the background.

Untrodden

"Untrodden"

I have been wanting to adventure out of my comfort zone of nature photography and venture into landscape photography.  With photographying birds and flowers, it is very comfortable for me.  I am out of my element with landscape photography, and it is uncomfortable.  I know with time it will be easier.  I am excited to jump into this whole new world:)

Boo

"Boo"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My assistant photographer Boo (my dog) followed me outside to help me for the Digital Photography School's Weekly Photography Challenge.  The theme was titled, "backyard."  There wasn't much to photograph, so Boo became my subject in the front yard:)

P.S. The special words to get her to tilt her head are squirrel and treat!!

Flatter

In my opinion, when I look at this photograph, one flower is incomplete without the other; one compliments the other.  I looked up the word compliment and found the words flatter, praise, and congratulate.  Very fitting!

His Favorite Branch

"His Favorite Branch"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I posted earlier in the summer a female Ruby-throated hummingbird's favorite branch; now I wanted to post the immature males favorite branch.  I spent a lot of my summer at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.   So much so that I knew where the hummingbird's favorite perches were throughout the garden.

I knew where his favorite branch was, so I set my tripod up real close in hopes he would not mind.

One time the hummer landed on a branch five feet above my head to check me out.

Through The Light

"Through The Light"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I usually do not photograph many crawly creatures.  I found this Daddy longleg meandering about on a wall.  The way the light hit him caught my eye.  I had to pick him up several times in hopes in would walk though the light again.  After I left him alone, and he stopped at the end of the wall where I captured this shot.

After viewing him up close, I discovered they are weird creatures!  Click on the photo for a closer view:)

Love At First Sight!

"Love At First Sight!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

It was love at first sight when I saw this donkey!  I was headed down a long winding road with my family to take photos of waterfalls.  We came upon a pasture that had this donkey, two horses, and a miniature horse.  This donkey stole my heart especially when he peered through the fence straight into my eyes!

Plod

"Plod"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My family and I went on a short weekend trip in search of waterfalls and beautiful fall foliage.  We hiked to Frolictown Falls, and the highlight of that trip for me was finding this dragonfly.

When I first spotted him, he was exactly how you see him in the photo.  I took several photos, and he did not move an inch.  So, I got out my macro lenses and got real close and hoped he wouldn't fly away.  He never moved.

I don't remember him being there when I first got there, so I don't think he was dead.  I had to stand in freezing water to ge the shot, and I accidently splashed water on him while moving about.

I named the photo "Plod" because it was the opposite of "frolic" since we were at Frolictown Falls and he was not frolicking.

For A Moment

"For A Moment"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Most of what I love to photograph, only stays still "for a moment."  The target is constantly moving and makes what I do a constant thrill and challenge, but I love it!  All photographers are trying though to capture that perfect moment, whether portraiture, architectural, landscape, sports, or many others.

After chasing this Wilson's Plover around for a while, he stopped briefly at the edge of the water just long enough for me to get a good shot.
