🦢❤️"Like a Charm”🦢❤️

🦢❤️"Like a Charm”🦢❤️

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I love it when I can envision a shot. It doesn’t come easy, but I’m thrilled when the outcome is even better than expected.

Yesterday, I was photographing with friends when I noticed two swans near a red reflection from a barn in the pond.

“I want to photograph them in that,” I said as I pointed to the reflection.

We took turns leading the swans to the reflection with food. When my friends walked away, I wanted to try one more time. I ran up the path and they followed, and then ran fast back to where I wanted to take the photo. It worked like a charm.

Lining Up

❤️🦢 "Lining Up” ❤️🦢

* A mute swan glides through colorful reflections. *

I love photographing the wildlife at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. My favorites subjects there are the mute swans and bald eagles. Through the years, many more swans have been purchased, making it easier to find one to photograph.

I envisioned the shot I wanted to take when I saw this swan nearing a colorful reflection, which made the shot more interesting. His white reflection is beginning to line up with the other.

New Year’s Eve Sushi

“New Year’s Eve Sushi”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My family took a needed vacation to Hilton Head Island last week. We stayed at the Sonesta Resort overlooking the beach. It was an enjoyable break.

I did not want to drag my family along on my birding adventures, so when there was downtime I went to the beach in search of shorebirds.

The sandpipers were on the beach. This sandpiper found a fish on the shoreline and was enjoying his sushi New Year’s Eve Day. I know he wasn’t going anywhere because he had a fish.

I photographed him for quite sometime. Two seagulls saw the fish and started circling around. Before I could run them off, one landed and gulped the fish whole. Bully:(

My Hangry Face!

“My Hangry Face!”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

In February, I had the privilege to photograph my first Eastern screech-owl (Adult red morph).

He was a cute little fellow nestled in a tree. He didn’t appear to be hangry, but I like the face he gave me. I’ll pretend he was super hungry therefore, hangry.

Divine Providence

“Divine Providence”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

If you have been following my work for some time, you know I have mentioned many times about the Lord’s intervention in my photography. He blesses my photography so much—even times when I least expect it. I pray and ask the Lord to show me or bring to me what He wants me to photograph.

My apartment overlooks a cove right next to the water’s edge. On this particular day, I was walking my dog in my apartment complex. For some reason, I looked up. There before me was an immature bald eagle in a dead tree.

Hurriedly, I picked up the dog; ran to my apartment and got my camera. I asked the Lord to please have him stay there until I got back.

I love when He answers even my simple prayers.

One Sip

“One Sip”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Being a hummingbird is hard work! They have to consume about half their body weight in in nectar and bugs a day. That equals feeding on 1,000 to 2,000 flowers daily to get the nectar they need. Unless of course, they are lucky enough to find a hummingbird feeder and can gulp away.

“One of Them”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

One of my favorite things to do is photograph the swans at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. They are so beautiful!

There is a particular place where I can usually find them. This day did not disappoint.

I usually start a distance away and slowly creep forward throughout the time I am there. They are comfortable with my presence and allow me to be in their world as though I am one of them.

Evil Eye

“Evil Eye”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

This past winter, a friend took me to photograph a canvasback. I was excited because I have never photographed one. Also, canvasbacks in Tennessee during the winter are uncommon.

I kinda felt sorry for him, because he was the only one of his kind living at the pond. The only other birds were mallards. He blended in but stuck out like a sore thumb.

Canvasbacks are wary and he proved no different. When I walked around the lake to him, he swam away.

In this photo, it looks like he is giving me the evil eye for following him.

Up, Up, and Away

“Up, Up, and Away”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Two other photographers and I went in search of sandhill cranes. I first photographed cranes in Texas, but they were a million miles in the air.

My friend has permission to photograph on a lady’s private property. When we arrived, the cranes were in her fields grazing. Unexpectedly, they took to flight not giving me time to adjust my shutter speed. I shot away hoping for a good photograph.

I’m tickled to get a decent shot!
