One Sip

“One Sip”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Being a hummingbird is hard work! They have to consume about half their body weight in in nectar and bugs a day. That equals feeding on 1,000 to 2,000 flowers daily to get the nectar they need. Unless of course, they are lucky enough to find a hummingbird feeder and can gulp away.

Sneaking In?

“Sneaking In?”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

While I was in El Paso, Texas, I visited Chamizal National Memorial Park in search of hummingbirds. I did my research and was hoping it would pay off.

Boom Baby! They were feeding on the Texas Red Yucca. I sat at the base of this plant for almost three hours and loved every minute of it!

Little One

I enjoyed photographing this black-chinned hummingbird while I was at the Chamizal National Park in El Paso, Texas. I sat at the base of a Texas Red Yucca plant for a couple of hours and let the hummingbirds come to me.

Favorite Critter

"Favorite Critter"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

It won't be long before my favorite critter to photograph, the ruby-throated hummingbird, comes back to Georgia. I miss them so much and anticipate their return each year! It gives me something to look forward to as I do not like winter.

This photo was taken at Chamizal National Memorial Park in El Paso, Texas as I was visiting my daughter. The plant is the Texas Red Yucca.

I love Texas because they have tons of species of hummingbirds!

Worth the Wait!

"Worth the Wait!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography
While visiting my daughter in El Paso, Texas, I have had one major thing on my mind concerning my photography…..hummingbirds! There are quite a few different species out here—much different than in Georgia where we only have the ruby-throated hummingbird. It's easy to identify hummingbirds in Georgia. It's either a male or female ruby-throated hummingbird. I recognize their sounds as well as I do a dog barking.

I am having a hard time identifying which species I am photographing. Right now, there are three main hummingbirds here—the rufous, black-chinned and the broad-tailed (which should have left in August). I did photograph a ruby-throated hummingbird back in March.

I did a lot of research before I came to Texas, so I knew several places to go. Yesterday, I visited Chamizal National Memorial Park and found them feeding on the Texas Red Yucca. I sat at the base of the plant for almost three hours. I think it was worth the wait!

If you are looking for where to find hummingbirds in El Paso, Texas, Chamizal National Memorial Park has a few!
