The Lord’s grace, and love for me is never ceasing. He knew I have wanted to photograph foxes for two and a half years. I have had a few opportunities, but never like this.
I was able to watch this momma fox and her kits play and play. It was so much fun watching them play fight. They are so adorable!

“Giddyup, Mama!”

Once in a while, you get a special opportunity when out photographing. A black bear and her cubs graced my presence. They meandered about on Sparks Lane for a while. I parked my car at the top of the hill and Hazel and her cubs decided to walk near it.
While I was photographing her, I noticed another set of ears popping up on her back. One of her cubs climbed up and said, “Giddyup, Mama!”

“Surrounded in Beauty"

A few friends came over to my apartment on the lake, and we ventured out exploring a tiny island on the property. We didn’t find much that day, but I found a blue dasher dragonfly surrounded in beautiful wild coneflowers.
I messaged my friends who were photographing on a different part of the island and told them to come towards me. Together we pieced together beautiful shots by sharing what our photographs looked like. My favorite photo is the dragonfly surrounded by coneflowers with the milkiness of the lake in the background.

Queen Anne’s Lace is abundant in Cades Cove. I am usually busy photographing bears or bucks, so I have overlooked its beauty.
As I was leaving a field after photographing bucks, a single stalk of the Queen Anne’s Lace caught my eye. So much so, I stopped to photograph it. When I stop to photograph something, I usually go over and beyond what is necessary to get the shot. This day was no exception.
I whipped out my tripod to steady my hand and camera as I took the photograph. Smaller stems were tucked away so a single flower was in view. I moved my tripod around trying to find a clean, pretty background then took the shot.
As I was editing the photo, I thought about its name and wondered where the origin came from. I don’t believe everything I read on the Web but found this citing. “The Woodrow Wilson Foundation Leadership Programs for Teachers cites the origin of the name as follows: ‘Queen Anne’s Lace is said to have been named after Queen Anne of England, and expert lace maker. When she pricked her finger with a needle, a single drop of blood fell into the lace, thus the dark purple floret in the center of the flower.’” www.commonsensehome.com

“Lazy Days of Summer”

A friend and I went to Cades Cove, Tennessee to photograph black bears. We had a pretty good day, and the day got even better when we found a bear in the field. It was meandering around and came very close to the road to eat some leaves.
The bear looked up the tree a few times. I told my friend that it was going to climb the tree. Sure enough, she scampered up, and we found out that she was a mama bear. Her cubs were above her sleeping while she enjoyed a quick nap in the tree.
Needless to say, we had a wonderful time photographing the mama bear and the cubs. What a way to end the day!

“Shred to Pieces”

I watched this mamma black bear and her cubs for hours and hours while I was in Cades Cove, Tennessee.
She and her cubs caused quite a large audience. A camera crew even filmed her for a documentary.
She “treed” her cubs which seemed like for hours as she foraged. Treed means she told her cubs which tree to climb and stay in until she called them down.
She put on quite a show. While she was foraging, she walked to the road and took a drink, sat down and munched on a sapling, took a small siesta, let her babies play in an open field, but one of my favorite things was watching her shred a tree to pieces. She stood on her hind legs and began tearing the tree apart to find the grubs.
It as a wonderful day with many great memories!

“Ma, This Christmas Tree!”

Cubs are so cute to observe as they explore their new environment. This cub was no exception.
He first used his sense of smell and inhaled the aroma of the fir needles. He began to play with the branch, then became unstable and slipped off the log onto the forest floor.
Christmas is far away, but he wanted to pick out the Christmas tree early.

Back in 2019, I came across a mama black bear and her two cubs in Cades Cove, Tennessee. At first, the cubs were shy and peaked around trees at the group gathered admiring them.
Soon they went about being bears and one rested at the bottom of a tree. They walked on top of a fallen tree, then they began wrestling. It was the cutest thing ever!
To top off the morning, they climbed a lot of trees and enjoyed snuggle time with mom.
I am so ready to see the cubs this year. It’s been a long wait!

“May I Cut In?"

Six white-tailed bucks congregated in a large field at Cades Cove on Friday. Two of the males already lost their racks. One of them was our cherished Buddy who has an injured left leg due to a possible snake bite.
I took quite a few photos then decided to get out my tripod because they started to spar. Two of the deer went at it for a bit then the smaller one ran away for no apparent reason.
I was tickled to death to watch the sight continue to unfold. I’ll let the video show what happened next. It’s cute!

“Perfectly Perched!”

On this snowy day in Cades Cove, the skies were blue, and I was excited to photograph anything in the snow. I found a hawk on Hyatt Lane and pursued him as he perched in the trees.
Even though the trees did not have snow in them, I was thrilled to photograph him. He was checking me out!

“It’s Monday—Nope!”

On my birthday, I went to the Murfree Spring Wetlands in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I prayed my normal prayer for the Lord to show me or bring to me what He wanted me to photograph.
I knew raccoons lived in a tree in there, but I did not see them the previous two days. Thankfully, the Lord provided a spectacular viewing of them.
He came out, scratched and said, “It’s Monday—Nope!”

“Who Goes There?”

In March 2018, a friend and I found two deer behind the welcome center in Cades Cove, Tennessee.
We enjoyed photographing them, and I decided to take a video. One buck had already lost his rack. The other buck had one antler left.
They heard or sensed something on the other side of the field that spooked them. I have no idea what it was.

“Ready for Winter”

I found this whale of a bear in Cades Cove in November 2020. She was huge!
When I found her, she was munching on the rich walnuts under the tree. Have you ever heard a bear crunch a walnut?
Hopefully, she will have cubs this year. Cubs are born at the end of January or early February. I can’t wait to see them!!
I thought the tree showed a good perspective of how big she is.
Did she swallow a whale?
