🏔❄️“Snow Covered Peaks”🏔❄️

🏔❄️“Snow Covered Peaks”🏔❄️ - Cell phone photo day

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I thoroughly enjoyed going to the Cove on Thursday and loved seeing the snow-covered mountain peaks. Snow makes the Cove even more beautiful.

I enjoyed hiking by myself, climbing over 15,000 steps, crossing streams, and observing stunning landscapes. Maybe these photos will help you feel like you were there:)🩵

*A prescribed burn took place yesterday in Cades Cove, Tennessee. I will post videos in a later post.

Yesterday, I enjoyed a wonderful day in the Cove with friends. The Cove is always beautiful, but watching it go from fog to fire was amazing.

I’ve been to the Cove when they had a controlled burn, but I never tried documenting it because I was busy photographing wildlife. I enjoyed capturing all the different aspects, from laying down the fire to witnessing it up close. New growth will start occurring in weeks.

One of my favorite shots is of an ignition crew member from the Nature Conservancy uses a drip torch to start the fire.

The National Park Service described the benefits of a controlled burn including: “reducing wildfire risk by managing fuel loads, restoring natural habitats for wildlife, controlling invasive species, maintaining cultural landscapes at historic sites, and promoting the growth of native plant species, all while ensuring safety for visitors, staff, and surrounding communities through careful planning and execution under optimal conditions.”

A volunteer stood near the fire, so I gave her a nicely pressed Tennessee mask. I also wore a mask for a good bit during the burn.

One lady pulled beside me, propped her elbow on her steering wheel, put her head on her fist, and sat watching the fire. If you’ve never been during a controlled burn, I’d suggest going if the smoke wouldn't bother you or make you sick. I think you’d like it.

*Sparks Lane on a frosty morn in Cades Cove, Tennessee. November 2, 2023

It was a beautiful frosty morning in Alcoa, Tennessee, today. I can’t imagine what Cades Cove looks like. I am excited to get back to the Cove once the tree removal is finished. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been there.

The beauty of Cades Cove in the snow is spectacular. I get so excited to see what is around every turn.

The cabins look beautiful in white, and the critters will sometimes have snow on their backs. If there is snow, I will be there!

😇🙏🏻“Blessed”😇🙏🏻

😇🙏🏻“Blessed”😇🙏🏻

Yesterday, I was the first to enter my second home, Cades Cove. It was an amazing day, minus one hiccup. The snow was beautiful, and it was a blessing to see it snow until noon.

I went over a culvert in my car, leaving my back left tire about two feet off the ground. The photo shows after the first time my car was pulled so the tire wasn’t as high.

I pulled over quickly because I saw a buck and wanted to photograph it. I didn’t know it was a culvert as it was not clearly visible. My tire went off into the bank and left me hanging. The metal underside of my car was stuck on the culvert.

Thankfully, I had met a nice young man named John earlier before I entered the Cove. He assisted me in getting several massive logs under my tire beside the culvert so that my tire would have something to drive on when we backed out. Thankfully, two other sweet gentlemen, Jason and Tom, stopped and helped. After we stacked all the logs, they had plastic runners to put under the tire so that it could roll on.

I put it in reverse and backed a reasonable distance, and then my car stopped because I forgot I had my emergency break on. We fixed all the logs and tried again with his wench on The General—his jeep.

Before I got in the car to back it up, I asked everyone to pray, and I asked the Lord to have his angels lift my car and not damage it. I asked for protection, and my car could’ve easily flipped over if things had gone wrong. Thank you, Lord, for your provisions, blessing me, and keeping me safe in my car.

A few friends I saw that morning circled back around and photographed the shenanigans I got myself into.

It’s not the buck’s fault. It’s mine. His beautiful photo will come next week.

The second pull on the wench freed my car, and my car did not appear damaged. We all took a group photo, and I hugged and thanked them for stopping to help. They are my good Samaritans.

One asked, “Have you photographed the buck yet?”

     “No.”

“Well, you need to go photograph it. That’s a good story.”

Luckily, the buck awaited me as he slept on the snowing grass. I got some good shots. I told the guys to go to my website and pick any photo they liked, and I would ship it to them.

I will be more cautious and not be too hurried to pull off. I need to get one of those cars with cameras on all sides, as I couldn’t see how close I was to the culvert on the right side. God is good. All the time is good.

As I did my devotion for the night, I laughed out-loud as I saw the verse: Stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today... Exodus 14:13

Word to the wise: Don’t be in a hurry to pull off, and definitely use the pull-offs.

At the first hint of snow, I am out the door to Cades Cove. The Cove is so magical but especially in winter. Anyone else ready for snow?

Stark Contrast

“Stark Contrast”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

On January 3rd, 2022, my friend and I drove the back roads of Townsend looking for things to photograph because Cades Cove was closed. We had the best time.

When I saw a black cow in the pasture in front of me, I started running down a snowy road towards it. You would have thought I saw a bobcat or something more interesting to photograph. I was so excited!

The cow kept walking up the snow-covered bank until he reached the top where another cow was standing. The trees were a snowy white and made for a stark contrast. I was giddy as a schoolgirl!

“Season of White”

Winter is fun when blanketed in snow. Beautiful landscapes become amazing when draped in snow-covered trees and branches.

My friend and I went exploring the back country of Townsend. We never knew what was around the corner. This sight was gorgeous!

Winter Wonderland!

“Winter Wonderland!”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

What does one do when there were so many downed trees in Cades Cove yesterday, and it was closed? Make lemonade out of lemons.

My friend and I knew the Cove would be closed after we swung by the parkway and saw a gazillion trees crossing the road. Of course, we checked to see if the Cove was open to no avail.

So, we traveled back roads in Townsend and saw beautiful scenery everywhere. We would gasp as we gazed in awe. There was much anticipation around every curve in the road wondering what beauty awaited us. I was also in awe of God and His creativity and letting us enjoy the winter wonderland He created.

Not only did we see beautiful country scenery, we saw a black cow, a white horse, birds including an American kestrel, a donkey, a dog, and a squirrel family all in the snow. My favorite was the black cow in contrast with the snow. I can’t wait to post my photos!

We made one last attempt to see if the Cove was open and saw a line of taillights with cars turning around. We pulled in the Little River Campground and wanted to photograph the rushing water of the Little River adorned with snowy-covered branches.

When I walked across the bridge, I noticed a faceless snowman. The snowman looked bleak until I grabbed a few rocks to decorate his face. Something was still missing—a hat. I took my glove off and ever so carefully put it on his head. I did not want my glove falling into the river.

The snowman was finally complete—he was so cute. I appreciated the person who made it.

Others came up to photograph him as well. My friend said, “Five dollars for each shot.”

It was a magical day. Will the Cove be open today? I don’t know. I am thankful for the workers that are trying to unleash the Cove from the trees blocking the road. Have a blessed day!

The Grandeur Behind Me

“The Grandeur Behind Me”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Sparks Lane, in Cades Cove, Tennessee, is just a slice of Heaven!

In December 2020, I encountered one of the prettiest snowfalls I have ever seen in the Cove. Hints of the autumn colored trees were still visible on the tops of the mountains.

I have already shared my photo of the snow-covered trees at the end of Sparks. I turned around and enjoyed the grandeur behind me.

“The Essence of Cades Cove”

“The Essence of Cades Cove”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

While hiking in Cades Cove yesterday, I stopped in my tracks to gaze at the beauty in front of me. On the ridge, evergreen trees starkly stood out amongst the snow-covered mountain.

I truly wanted to capture its essence. Because I did not have my tripod, I laid my backpack on the ground and propped my camera on it. While lying on my side, I looked through the viewfinder, set a timer, and took the photo.

It was a lot of effort, but I am so glad I did.
