❄️🩵 “The Beauty of Cades Cove in Snow” ❄️🩵

The beauty of Cades Cove in the snow is spectacular. I get so excited to see what is around every turn.

The cabins look beautiful in white, and the critters will sometimes have snow on their backs. If there is snow, I will be there!

At the first hint of snow, I am out the door to Cades Cove. The Cove is so magical but especially in winter. Anyone else ready for snow?

Stark Contrast

“Stark Contrast”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

On January 3rd, 2022, my friend and I drove the back roads of Townsend looking for things to photograph because Cades Cove was closed. We had the best time.

When I saw a black cow in the pasture in front of me, I started running down a snowy road towards it. You would have thought I saw a bobcat or something more interesting to photograph. I was so excited!

The cow kept walking up the snow-covered bank until he reached the top where another cow was standing. The trees were a snowy white and made for a stark contrast. I was giddy as a schoolgirl!

“Season of White”

Winter is fun when blanketed in snow. Beautiful landscapes become amazing when draped in snow-covered trees and branches.

My friend and I went exploring the back country of Townsend. We never knew what was around the corner. This sight was gorgeous!

Winter Wonderland!

“Winter Wonderland!”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

What does one do when there were so many downed trees in Cades Cove yesterday, and it was closed? Make lemonade out of lemons.

My friend and I knew the Cove would be closed after we swung by the parkway and saw a gazillion trees crossing the road. Of course, we checked to see if the Cove was open to no avail.

So, we traveled back roads in Townsend and saw beautiful scenery everywhere. We would gasp as we gazed in awe. There was much anticipation around every curve in the road wondering what beauty awaited us. I was also in awe of God and His creativity and letting us enjoy the winter wonderland He created.

Not only did we see beautiful country scenery, we saw a black cow, a white horse, birds including an American kestrel, a donkey, a dog, and a squirrel family all in the snow. My favorite was the black cow in contrast with the snow. I can’t wait to post my photos!

We made one last attempt to see if the Cove was open and saw a line of taillights with cars turning around. We pulled in the Little River Campground and wanted to photograph the rushing water of the Little River adorned with snowy-covered branches.

When I walked across the bridge, I noticed a faceless snowman. The snowman looked bleak until I grabbed a few rocks to decorate his face. Something was still missing—a hat. I took my glove off and ever so carefully put it on his head. I did not want my glove falling into the river.

The snowman was finally complete—he was so cute. I appreciated the person who made it.

Others came up to photograph him as well. My friend said, “Five dollars for each shot.”

It was a magical day. Will the Cove be open today? I don’t know. I am thankful for the workers that are trying to unleash the Cove from the trees blocking the road. Have a blessed day!

The Grandeur Behind Me

“The Grandeur Behind Me”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Sparks Lane, in Cades Cove, Tennessee, is just a slice of Heaven!

In December 2020, I encountered one of the prettiest snowfalls I have ever seen in the Cove. Hints of the autumn colored trees were still visible on the tops of the mountains.

I have already shared my photo of the snow-covered trees at the end of Sparks. I turned around and enjoyed the grandeur behind me.

“The Essence of Cades Cove”

“The Essence of Cades Cove”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

While hiking in Cades Cove yesterday, I stopped in my tracks to gaze at the beauty in front of me. On the ridge, evergreen trees starkly stood out amongst the snow-covered mountain.

I truly wanted to capture its essence. Because I did not have my tripod, I laid my backpack on the ground and propped my camera on it. While lying on my side, I looked through the viewfinder, set a timer, and took the photo.

It was a lot of effort, but I am so glad I did.

Heaven on Earth

“Heaven on Earth”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Hopefully, I will see more snow in Cades Cove tomorrow. It makes me giddy as a little girl.

Sparks Lane, Hyatt Lane, and Cades Cove Loop Road are my favorite roads on planet earth. Cades Cove is already heaven on earth. Add God’s beautiful snow, and it becomes more magical!

Let it Snow!

“Let it Snow!”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I photographed this snowman in Cades Cove, Tennessee on the first day of spring last year. I figured if I posted snow photographs that maybe, just maybe the snow will come that is forecasted for next week.

We don’t get snow that often in Athens, Georgia, and I may have to drive farther north to photograph it. Fingers are crossed! Let it snow!!

Wonderfully Made!

"Wonderfully Made!"

Snowflakes are all unique and beautiful too! I tried to photograph them last week when it snowed in Georgia.

Snowflakes are unique and special, but so are you. God made you unique—no one else is just like you!

I enjoyed learning how to photograph frozen bubbles—I haven’t mastered it yet. It definitely was a learning experience, but the bubble itself is a masterpiece!

Love Those 'Lashes'

"Love Those 'Lashes'"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I lured the birds into my yard last year when it snowed by throwing birdseed on the snow. Before long, I had lots of visitors.

Those aren't really the junco's lashes, but I think it makes the bird look prettier thinking that way:)

A Little of This

"A Little of This"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

We are having a wet winter as forecasted, but we have not had any snow. I love when Georgia gets snow, because I am able to go out and shoot. Snow makes for a whole different landscape. I am sure there are others who will say, "I've had enough of this!"

Cold Feet

"Cold Feet"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Before the snow actually came to Athens, Georgia, we had tons of freezing rain and sleet.  The icy branches don't make for as pretty of a shot, but I like the effect nonetheless.
