Posing

“Posing”
Blue dasher dragonfly

I love that dragonflies come back to the same perch over and over. It makes for easy photography.

Dragonflies are fun to photograph. If I miss the shot.....no worries! He will come right back to his favorite perch!

Hanging On

"Hanging On"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

The thing I love about dragonflies is they come back to the same perch time and time again like hummingbirds do. It makes it so much easier to photograph them. It just takes patience.

This particular dragonfly usually landed repeatedly on the top of this branch. I guess he tired of doing so and decided to hang on it.

Up in Lights

The reflections of the light in the water make this dragonfly look like he is in the spotlight on a broadway show.

Perched

I found this little fellow perched on this branch at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. A wall from the conservatory made for a good background.

While I'm Waiting

"While I'm Waiting"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

As I wait to hopefully shoot hummingbird photos, I am always willing to divert my attention briefly if something else is worthy to photograph.  This dragonfly caught my attention one morning this week while I was waiting.  He was enjoying the morning sun and stayed perched for quite some time.

Predictable

"Predictable"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I usually can get a decent shot of a dragonfly because they are so predictable.  They consistently go back to the same place to perch making it easy to photography them.

Plod

"Plod"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

My family and I went on a short weekend trip in search of waterfalls and beautiful fall foliage.  We hiked to Frolictown Falls, and the highlight of that trip for me was finding this dragonfly.

When I first spotted him, he was exactly how you see him in the photo.  I took several photos, and he did not move an inch.  So, I got out my macro lenses and got real close and hoped he wouldn't fly away.  He never moved.

I don't remember him being there when I first got there, so I don't think he was dead.  I had to stand in freezing water to ge the shot, and I accidently splashed water on him while moving about.

I named the photo "Plod" because it was the opposite of "frolic" since we were at Frolictown Falls and he was not frolicking.

Idiosyncrasies

"Idiosyncrasies"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Not to fret when you're getting ready to take a photo of a dragonfly and he flies away; he will prabably come right back.  They are funny creatures like the hummingbirds which come back to the same branch.  I guess I would say they have the same idiosyncrasies?

Beautiful In Its Time

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (NIV, Ecclesiastes 3.11)
