"Tender Encounter” – My Favorite Nine

"Tender Encounter” – My Favorite Nine

One of my favorite nine photos posted in 2023 ...

Before I post my “top nine for 2023” photo this year, I wanted to post my favorite nine posts from 2023 and see the difference. I just couldn’t narrow it down to six this year. One bear pic was a video, and two photos were featured therefore shown twice. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Here they are……

A fawn frolicks under a shaded tree then nuzzles up to its momma. The fawn had no concerns whatsoever because his mom kept him safe.

“Sleepwalking Bear Cub” – My Favorite Nine

“Sleepwalking Bear Cub” – My Favorite Nine

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

*A black bear cub sleepwalks in Cades Cove, Tennessee.*

One day, deep in the enchanted forest of Cades Cove lived Momma Bear and her three little cubs. The cubs frolicked and played hard all morning, biting each other’s ears, toppling over one another, and pinning them to the ground. They fought so hard they could “bearly” keep their eyes open.

They took a nap safely in a tree with Momma Bear below. Momma Bear also grew weary and slept on a mossy-covered log.

“Time to get up and play!” said one cub. The last cub barely made it out of the tree awake and fell deep asleep at the base of the tree. He sleepwalked until his brother toppled him to the ground, snapping him out of his slumber.

The End

It’s incredible something so beautiful as buttercups can be so poisonous.

I learned buttercups are poisonous. If livestock eats the plant, it blisters their mouths, causes gastrointestinal irritation, and, if ingested in large quantities, can cause death. Livestock are intelligent and get the hint to stop eating it when symptoms immediately occur.

·      A black bear cub was teething on the wire of a fence. * This photo was a big hit:) No worries—it wasn’t a barbed-wire.

What I love about photography is you never know what is around the corner. It could be nothing, and you search and search, or a cute black bear cub teething on the wire on a fence.

Was I wowed to watch this black bear cub chew on the wire on a fence. I was delighted, to say the least.

No House Decorations!

“No House Decorations!”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

*A black bear chews through caution tape in Cades Cove, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.*

Don’t tie a yellow ribbon around my old oak tree! This mama bear was unhappy about the yellow ribbon on her house, so she decided to bite through it. She chewed through one, then attempted to bite through another and failed.

The ribbon was put up to give her a little space, peace, and quiet from everyone, but she didn’t like the ribbon! The rangers do what is best for the wildlife.

This photograph is really a shot of a lifetime. The Lord blesses me so much. On the way to Cades Cove this morning, I prayed, “Lord, show me or bring to me what You want me to photograph.” It’s my regular prayer. All you have to do is ask.

My Favorite Nine – “Rocket”

My Favorite Nine – “Rocket”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Before I post my “top nine for 2023” photo this year, I wanted to post my favorite nine posts from 2023. What would the difference be?  I just couldn’t narrow it down to six this year. One bear pic was a video, and two photos were featured therefore shown twice. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Here they are……

Backstory:

One of the photographs I covet getting in Cades Cove, Tennessee, is a deer, especially a buck, jumping the fence.

Timing and position are crucial to getting the shot. Usually, the deer are predictable, and I can tell when they are getting ready to jump. Sometimes, they cheat and go under the barbed wire.

I never really thought about the mannerism of the jump. I’m just trying to photograph it.

This buck drops his right shoulder and puts his right leg tight to his body. He then stretches his body up, up, up. Right before he jumps, he uses his powerful back legs to rocket through the air allowing him to hurdle the wire.

I am tickled I got the shot.

“Mommie & Me”

 “Mommie & Me”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

** I love the baby dolphin breaching the water next to his mommie:) The water moving over his fins is amazing! **

Want to take a Caribbean vacay and not pay a dime? I’ll take you on one for free by letting you see through my lens during my vacay.

Stay put. We went on a 14-day trip to the eastern Caribbean, and I took 11,403 photos—it’s gonna be a long trip! Of course, I will add photos of the cute bears:)

We loved our stay in St. Kitts. We took a whale and dolphin excursion, and it did not disappoint. I prayed and asked the Lord to bring them to us.

One crew member said they had an 80 to 85% success rate of finding them. The Lord blessed us immensely on our trip. It was 100 million percent.

There were about six of us younger folk—we rode on the bow of the boat. It’s funny how a couple next to us has a cabin in East Tennessee, and they love the Lord. He sent videos and pictures to his grandkids and his 4 1/2-year-old granddaughter. She said, “Where do the baby dolphins put their toys?” He said, “In a coral toy box.”

The front of the boat was rocky, but it was the best place to see the dolphins because you could look to the right and left within a small radius.

We saw pilot whales and several pods of bottlenose dolphins. Two Pilot whales rode beside our boat for a while, and one pod of dolphins swam right towards us.

Paul, once again, was my spotter. It’s extremely hard photographing a moving target while looking through what seems like a pair of binoculars. Did I mention the boat was pounding the waves?

The dolphins stay above water for a very short time, but I set my new camera on the fastest frame rate—120 frames per second. Wow! In one shot, I got a mama dolphin and her baby breaching simultaneously.

We figured it out by using the hands of a clock to let me know which direction they were swimming.

I disliked photographing the dolphins in the sun—it cast white on the waves. I wish I had my polarizer, which would’ve taken that out. It is what it is. I enjoyed getting a few shots of the landscape of St. Lucia in the background.

The excursion was beyond amazing because the Lord answered my prayer once again.

"Missing You”

“Missing You”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

It’s been almost three weeks since I’ve been to Cades Cove—I am missing you! I'm missing my adorable black bear cubs and their sweet mamas. I miss the peace and serenity of the Cove with its stunning beauty.

I have good reason for not seeing you and can’t complain. I’m literally living in paradise sailing the “seven seas.” My husband and I are on a two-week anniversary cruise island hopping in the Caribbean. We were supposed to go three years ago, then Covid hit. It was our 30th anniversary.

The hundreds of iridescent hummingbirds flying around me and feeding a wild monkey won't replace my bears! If you would like to see pics from my trip including the tiny jeweled hummingbirds I photographed, you can follow my FB photography page:)

The End of the Road

“The End of the Road”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Sometimes, we can’t see the end of the road—it’s bumpy, and there are a few dips in the road. But, with Jesus, He will guide you and lead the way.

You can take the wheel or let Him drive. I prefer the latter. He is so good to me!

“Limpkin Jam”

“Limpkin Jam” - November 9, 2023

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park scored a touchdown when a Limpkin showed up in Cades Cove a few weeks ago. The bird’s presence was the first ever recorded in the GSMNP. What a thrill it was to see this little fellow!

He is way off course as he should be in Coastal Georgia, Florida, Mexico, Central and South America, and the islands heading to South America.

I caused a “Limpkin Jam” as I photographed him. Of course, I was telling others about him—they were excited to see him, too.

If you aren’t familiar with the term “bear jam,” it is when tons of people are looking at the bears. It backs up traffic, causing it to jam. So, this little one caused a “Limpkin Jam.”

What is one of the Limpkin's favorite delicacies? Snails. He found an abundance!
