"Patty-cake"

"Patty-cake"

Judy Royal Glenn photography

I noticed a large ripple as I passed a creek in Cades Cove, Tennessee. I didn’t see anything at first but upon further inspection, I saw two spring cubs with their mom cooling off from the hot sun.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, and my hand was over my mouth in awe.

My usual prayer is for the Lord to show me or bring to me what he wants me to photograph. He blesses me all the time!

When I photograph in Cades Cove during the early morning, especially when it's snowing, there isn’t enough light, so I slow my shutter speed to prevent my photos from being noisy. This technique creates a beautiful effect, resembling white confetti falling from Heaven.

🦌❄️“On the Move”🦌❄️

“Looking Back to 2024” —  🦌❄️“On the Move”🦌❄️

Photo taken January 8, 2021

A buck is on the move during the rut in light snow.

Each year, I stop to reflect on the past year. Many wonderful events took place, and there were bumps in the road.

April started with a bang as we saw Arkansas's total Solar eclipse of the sun. It was a road trip to remember, as we left early from South Carolina, lost our key at a pitstop, got a key re-keyed, and ended up in Arkansas about 1 o’clock in the morning. It was all worth it.

My daughter moved to Tennessee in May. She visited and saw that Tennessee is such a magical place, so she decided to move here.

In May, I had lithotripsy surgery to remove my kidney stones. Removing two stones was partially successful, but one is still hanging in there.

The Blue Ridge Christian Writers Conference is always a highlight of the year as I continue to work on the book the Lord laid on my heart to write about my mom‘s death and other deaths.

Because of the antibiotics I was given for my surgery, I got colitis and C-diff and ended up in the emergency room. If you don’t know what C-diff is, look it up. It is not fun.

June rounded the corner, and I got Covid.

My sweet son got married in October. We plan to visit him and his sweet wife this spring.

We finally signed our construction loan! It’s been the longest four years of wanting to build our forever dream home.

I got the flu to end the year and start the new year. Thankfully, it was a milder case, probably due to my flu shot.

Here’s to a New Year!

🦌❄️"The Buck and BJ Stops Here.”🦌❄️

🦌❄️"Buck and BJ Stops Here.”🦌❄️

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Thank you so much for all the kind comments about my mishap in Cades Cove. I pulled off hurriedly in BJ, my SUV, and my front tire went along the culvert and ended in a grassy embankment, putting my car in a predicament.

Several people stopped to help and got myself and my car out without damage with a few tugs from The General’s wrench. I have a friend whose son hit a culvert, and it flipped his truck and killed him. So, a simple mishap can be deadly.

One rescuer asked, “Have you photographed the book yet?”

     “No.”

“Well, you need to go photograph it. That's a good story.”

Thanks again for your sweet comments:)

I enjoyed watching this sow and her cubs trouncing through the blackberry bushes looking for food. A boar was bothering her, and she was vigilant to keep her cubs safe.

She stood upright several times, this time for two minutes. Not long after, one of her cubs got a free piggyback ride.

In Cades Cove, I witnessed a young buck and two does playing in thick fog in an open field. One doe approached the buck, and he gave her attention. The second doe arrived, displaying aggressive behavior with pinned-back ears and a rigid body.

The second doe reared on her rear legs and started chasing the other deer. A scuffle ensued as they stood on their rear legs and used their claws to fight. After the spat was over, they jumped the fence across the road and went on to live happily ever after.

“Looking Forward to 2024” – “Gander”

“Looking Forward to 2024” – “Gander”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Backstory:

I’ve always wanted to photograph an animal on the tallest hill in Cades Cove—the hill right before Tipton Cabin. I was thrilled to find a doe standing there asking to have her photo taken. I love how the doe is looking out at the vast beauty of the Cove with the mountain in the background.

As well as reflecting on the previous year, I look forward to the new year.

I would be amiss if I didn’t start by looking at how I look forward to the spring cubs! Cubs are my favorite subject to photograph. I love Cades Cove!!

My son, Ashton, is getting married this fall. How exciting:)

My daughter, Lauren, is looking into moving closer to us in Tennessee.

Finally, our forever home is getting started, hopefully this spring.

I know the Lord will be with and guide me whatever comes my way. He blesses my photography immensely.

I want to tell you how to make the best decision for this new year. It’s as simple as ABC.

A — Admit that you are a sinner. (Romans 3:23)

B — Believe that Jesus, God’s only son, was born and died on the cross for your sins. (Acts 16:31)

C — Confess and repent of your sins and ask Him to be the Lord of your life. (1 John 1:9)

Then watch your life turn into something beautiful:)

"Tender Encounter” – My Favorite Nine

"Tender Encounter” – My Favorite Nine

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

One of my favorite nine photos posted in 2023 ...

Before I post my “top nine for 2023” photo this year, I wanted to post my favorite nine posts from 2023 and see the difference. I just couldn’t narrow it down to six this year. One bear pic was a video, and two photos were featured therefore shown twice. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Here they are……

A fawn frolicks under a shaded tree then nuzzles up to its momma. The fawn had no concerns whatsoever because his mom kept him safe.

“Limpkin Jam”

“Limpkin Jam” - November 9, 2023

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park scored a touchdown when a Limpkin showed up in Cades Cove a few weeks ago. The bird’s presence was the first ever recorded in the GSMNP. What a thrill it was to see this little fellow!

He is way off course as he should be in Coastal Georgia, Florida, Mexico, Central and South America, and the islands heading to South America.

I caused a “Limpkin Jam” as I photographed him. Of course, I was telling others about him—they were excited to see him, too.

If you aren’t familiar with the term “bear jam,” it is when tons of people are looking at the bears. It backs up traffic, causing it to jam. So, this little one caused a “Limpkin Jam.”

What is one of the Limpkin's favorite delicacies? Snails. He found an abundance!

Chain Reaction

“Chain Reaction” - May 8, 2023

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I was thrilled when a volunteer ranger at Cades Cove let a group of onlookers walk up a small hill to view the black bear cubs fighting.

Two cubs were standing on their hind legs wrestling when a third cub barreled in, pinning down one cub. The pinned cub took revenge on the other cub, who was minding his own business and bit him. It caused a chain reaction!
