For the last eleven years, I have attended the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. I go because the Lord laid on my heart a story I felt He wanted me to write and publish.

I am attending the conference this week and also love photographing God’s beautiful creation. I spent my hour break Monday photographing the cedar waxwings in the small trees in front of my hotel room at the Ridgecrest Conference Center.

I posted this photo Tuesday for the conferees to remind them to find Him through His amazing creation! “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10

This is the proud mommy or daddy song sparrow I have been watching at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. Both parents have been busy gathering bugs and insects for the baby birds near the Mountain Laurel hotel.

As I was editing this photograph last night for today’s blog, I listened to my I-pod. A song came on I never heard before, so I began to delete it. I stopped and decided to listen to the song anyway.

I don’t know how the song got on my I-pod. I know when I was coping songs to it, I accidently added more from a few albums than I wanted. But, this was different. I looked at the album names, and it did not match the others. I honestly don’t know how it got on there—but then I do.....JESUS!

The lyrics of the song resonated with me and confirmed the answer I was looking for. Yesterday, I asked the Lord to tell me to stop if He wanted me to quit trying to publish a book I felt He wanted me to write and publish. Then I heard the lyrics to Josh Wilson’s song titled, “Pushing Back the Darkness.” Here is his video:

I went to Josh Wilson’s YouTube page and watched a video trailer. The very last words of the song on the trailer stated, “I refuse to sit around and wait for someone else to do what God is called me to do myself. Oh, I could choose not to move, but I refuse.” Here is John's video titled "I Refuse" 

I asked people to pray in my last blog post for God's will to be done while I was at a writers conference this week. I think I got my answer!

Ripples

I recently attended the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference.  One of my favorite things to do is hike to the lake.  It is so tranquil and quiet.  

I took my camera and wanted to photograph the beautiful reflections in the lake.  A floating dock rests on the lake with a place to sit, inviting people to come and relax.  

I tried hard not to move the dock by walking slowly so I would not disturb the calm waters.  The smallest movement I made though caused ripples.  The ripples traveled all the way to the other side of the lake.

As with my writing, and trying to get my book published, even though I am one, I can make a difference.  My impact can reach those on "the other side of the lake."

We all make "ripples" in our lives.  What good is being caused by the "ripples" in your life?

While I was at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, I went to a place where I normally find chipmunks to photograph but found the biggest surprise instead!  I did not know what I was looking at and thought it was not real because it wasn't moving!  The critter was huge and must have been 25-30 pounds.   

 

I knew it was not a beaver because of his tail.  He did not mind my presence at first, but when he walked away I followed.  Then he got scared and ran to safety.

 

He went into a water drain and put is head down after he was relaxed with me being near him.  I began to inch closer and closer to him while I was taking photos. 

At first, there was a vine growing up in front of the drain pipe, so once he backed up into the drain, I moved it out of the way.  By moving the vine, I was able to get a much better shot.  I knew I could get bit, but I took the chance anyway.

 

I still did not know what kind of critter he was so I asked a volunteer staff member nearby.  Of course you already know what the critter is, but he had to tell me it was a groundhog.  When I went back after talking to the man, the groundhog popped his head back out of the drain.

 

When I go out to shoot, I pray for the Lord to bring what He wants me to photograph.  This photo opportunity was "Just For Me!"
