“Leaping Lizards”

“Leaping Lizards”
 Judy Royal Glenn Photography

A horse races through buttercups at Cades Cove, Tennessee.

It’s incredible something so beautiful as buttercups can be so poisonous.

I learned buttercups are poisonous. If livestock eats the plant, it blisters their mouths, causes gastrointestinal irritation, and, if ingested in large quantities, can cause death. Livestock are intelligent and get the hint to stop eating it when symptoms immediately occur.

“Horses Blazing Through the Buttercups”

“Horses Blazing Through the Buttercups”

Judy Royal Glenn Photography

While in Cades Cove, Tennessee, I love watching the horses run to the end of the field when they get through work. The horses are sweaty and have dirty saddle marks on their tummies.

One by one, I photograph the horses blazing through the buttercups. Several of them would glance my way as they charged past. I clapped my hands and shouted, “Good job! Good job!” It was a beautiful and amazing sight!

Free

“Free”
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I love to watch the horses in the pastures of Cades Cove. My favorite time to photograph them is when they are set free in the pasture after their long day of riding on the trails.

The mane of this beautiful horse is half black and half white—it flows in the wind as he charges through the field.

Serenity

"Senerity"

I love watching the horses in the fields of Cades Cove, Tennessee. The ironweed made the sight even more beautiful. Not until I got home did I notice the beggar’s-lice tangled in his mane. It gave him a nice hairdo.

Peering Through the Fog

I always get excited when I see the horses out in the pasture in Cades Cove. This particular morning, the fog was thick and made for the perfect scenery!

It’s Quitting Time!

"It's Quitting Time!"

Not every shot can be taken in perfect lighting, and I don’t always nail the exposure, but when the opportunity presents itself, I take the shot.

It was quitting time after a long day on the trails in Cades Cove. This Appaloosa horse was excited to have his saddle off and able to run free.

Charge!

"Charge!"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I enjoyed watching a herd of horses relax and play in a field after their long day of work at Cades Cove. I am sure they enjoyed taking people on trail rides, but it was neat watching them just be free to do as they pleased.

One by one, they crossed a field and galloped towards where the other horses were resting. It was as if they entered the field saying, "Hey guys, I'm here!"

Ring Around the 'Horsies'

"Ring Around the 'Horsies'"

While I was in Alabama on my birding trip, I passed two horses being encircled by cattle egrets.
