Intentional

"Intentional"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Anytime I go out to shoot, I am always aware of my surroundings. I am intentional in my observations. Wildlife and beautiful flowers sometimes come in small packages and can be overlooked.

While I was at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, I found this little guy at the edge of a pond. He was sitting very still but did not mind as I crept up to photograph him.

Be Still

"Be Still"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

For the last eleven years, I have attended the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. I go because the Lord laid on my heart a story I felt He wanted me to write and publish.

I am attending the conference this week and also love photographing God’s beautiful creation. I spent my hour break Monday photographing the cedar waxwings in the small trees in front of my hotel room at the Ridgecrest Conference Center.

I posted this photo Tuesday for the conferees to remind them to find Him through His amazing creation! “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10

I would covet your prayers as I seek out the Lord's will for my photography and writing. Thank you ~ Judy:)

Cornered?

"Cornered?"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I enjoyed my time at Keystone Heritage Park, in El Paso, Texas. I mainly went there to photograph the black-necked stilt, but I will photograph anything that moves in front of my camera.

I walked around the wetlands to see how far I could go. As I passed some brush, I noticed a rabbit that was startled and panicked looked for a place to escape. There was a major problem…...he was on a peninsula surrounded by water except where I was standing. He took a desperate leap right into the water.

I did not know rabbits could swim. He swam to the other side then hopped away!

Wet but happy he got away from me.

Towering Above

I have posted before about George the resident great blue heron on the beach at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was kind enough to let me take his portrait while I was at the Alabama Coastal BirdFest.
I have never photographed a great blue heron this close, but he was used to hanging around the local fishermen for a bite to eat. My 80-400mm lens was on my camera, and I took this shot at 195mm.
He was towering over me a bit at I was on the downward slope of the beach and crouched low to get a good shot.
The background in my photographs is very important to me. I took several shots with the beach and shore in the background but also like the beach house because it gives the shot character:)

Reflecting

"Reflecting"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I think it is neat the Lord made water to reflect its surroundings. Nature becomes even more splendid when we can see God’s beautiful creation reflected in water.
From the angle I needed to place my camera, I knew it would reflect my camera. That could not be avoided because I wanted to place my camera on the wall to steady my camera.
Taking this photo made me think about what our lives reflect. Are we reflecting the fruit of the spirit…..love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?

Back on my Throne

The hummingbirds are back at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and so are the new Hummingbird Trail maps! The maps are in the Visitor Center at the front desk. The new map will be on the web site shortly.

There aren't a ton of hummingbirds at the Garden yet. The females are busy building their nests, so female hummingbird sightings are lower. In three to five weeks, I think the babies of two nests may be born. I saw a female collecting dandelion last week near marker # 20 for her nest:)

A male hummingbird can be found frequently at marker #6 on the dead branches at the top of the Loquat tree. Give him 5-10 minutes and you may see him.
The busiest marker right now is marker #11 at the rose garden. This is a new marker this year as there is an abundance of flowers the hummingbirds love!

These photographs were taken today at their respective markers. Thanks to everyone for helping get the trail and maps ready this year!!

Transposed

When you see a photograph of a shell at the beach, you don't think the shell was brought from a different location because shells are found at the beach. This shell started at the beach, found it's way to my dad's house, then I took it back to the beach to photograph. I don't typically find nice shells, so I brought a few to photograph.

Intimate Details

"Intimate Details"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

Our God is a big God who created so many amazing details in nature. I love photographing these wonderful details.

My husband let me pick out my orchid for Valentine's Day. He told me he saw some blue ones, and I had to have one! The orchids are of course color infused and will come back to their normal color next year.

My orchids were on their last leg and about to die, so I wanted to photograph them one more time. I knew the shot I had imagined, and when I set up my tripod and camera, I actually positioned the camera right the first try. This may be the first time I had accomplished such a task on the first try. I made some minor adjustments, and I was pleased with the outcome.

Some people may not "get" the shot, but I wanted to accentuate the beautiful curved details of the flower. I am glad I God created so many neat details in His creation!

Happy Mother's Day!
Moms do so much for us in our lives, and they are so special to us. May we take the time today to thank them and tell them how much they mean to us. My mom is with Jesus in Heaven. I said out loud "Happy Mother's Day." I can't wait to see her again and tell her in person! Be thankful while they are still here:)

Chillin' in Cozumel

"Chillin' in Cozumel"

While we were in Cozumel, Mexico on our cruise last year, we took a taxi to the beach. A young girl came and lay in the hammock as I was shooting. Little did she know she was part of my shot.

Beautifully Designed

While at the swamp at the Magnolia Plantation, I loved to photograph the egrets. It was mating season, so they were very active building their nests.

The patch of neon green on the egret which occurs during mating season is beautiful. God's creatures are so amazing!
