"Her Cherry Tree"

"Her Cherry Tree"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography
I recently hosted a hummingbird photo walk at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.  I walked a small group of people from the Athens Photography Guild through my hummingbird trail at the garden.
I showed them all of the places I knew of where the hummers perched.  I did not know this female hummer liked to perch on this Weeping Cherry Tree until everyone left.  She loved this tree and specifically this branch.

This is Abby a calf who celebrated her birthday yesterday.  Thanks Greg for letting me photograph her and to Emory for my wonderful limousine service.  I think she is adorable:)  Girls would kill for those eyelashes!

Newest Groundskeeper

"Newest Groundskeeper"

This year is the first year I have been able to photograph the deer at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia.  I was ticked to death to be able to capture a photo of this fawn.  I saw a doe walk past me, but I was delighted to follow her to find her fawn.

In The Spotlight

"In The Spotlight"

I created a bird hide in my daughter's room, so I could take photos of the hummingbirds in my yard.  I pushed down the top part of her window, hung a sheet over the whole window, and stuck my lens through the sheet to photograph the little critters.

There are two males, one female, and one immature male that I know of.  This particular male likes to perch on a limb about eight feet from her window.  My latest tactic is to place my camera on live view and relax until he gets on the limb then jump up and photograph him.  Sure beats keeping my eye to the view finder till he gets there!

Are You My Mother?

"Are You My Mother?"

This photo reminds me of the classic children's book Are You My Mother?  My teacup piglet week is over, but I will share more later:)

Struttin' My Stuff

A friend of mine introduced my daughter and me to a friend of hers.  Her friend Julia has a farm, and we went to photograph the piglets.  There were several litters of them, and they were all born within the last week.
I enjoyed getting up close and personal with them.  They were a little larger than a hot dog bun!  This one had stripes.

See Through Snowy Egret

"See Through Snowy Egret"

One of the hardest things for me to do is track a bird and get tack sharp photos.  This is not a tack sharp photo, but I like it a lot because I can see the bone structure of the egret's wings.

There is sort of a "runway" at Harris Neck that the birds seem to follow while flying.  It's not actually a runway, but it is definitely a path they like to fly over.  I stand on that "runway" and let them fly towards me.  There are real runways at Harris Neck as it was once a WWII Army airfield.  Neat how that works.

Anhinga

This is my first up close shot of the Anhinga.  It was termed the "Devil bird--evil spirit of the woods" by the natives of Brazil.  It is definitely a strange looking bird.

Wood Duck Runway

 "Wood Duck Runway"
Judy Royal Glenn Photography

I saw several Wood ducks at the Little Mulberry Park last weekend.  A few of them would fly to the railing on the pier looking for a bite to eat.  This female Wood duck looked like she was on a runway struttin' her stuff.  She would walk all around the railing and walk very close to my camera.  I wondered if I needed a model release.  She was doing such a good job of posing!
