“Pearl Harbor Tree”

A little sapling was transplanted in Cades Cove,
Tennessee on December 7, 1941—the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
Golman Myers searched the woods near his home to mark
the tragic day. He transplanted the sapling in his front yard. An old tire rim
was placed around the tree to keep the lawn mower from running over it.
The tree has since grown very large. In the 1970’s,
his son attached an engraved metal tag so his grandchildren could locate it.
The front of the plate says, ‘Golman Myers transplanted this tree December 7,
1941.’ The back says, “Pearl Harbor.’
The picture with the snow was taken November 12,
2019. The other one was taken the previous week on November 6. Notice more
flags were added in just a week’s time.
