This summer, an immature red-billed streamertail hummingbird thought he was king of the mountain in Jamaica, but he is only a prince. Once he is full grown, maybe he can be king. 

This stunning black and green little gem can only be found in Jamaica and is their national bird. His tail is short and has not fully grown to the adult’s length of 6-7 inches, and he is missing quite a few iridescent feathers on his chest because he is molting.

They have the longest tail feathers of any hummingbird. The locals call them the “Doctor Bird” because their long tail and black crest resemble the doctors of ole.

I created another YouTube video of my excursions with the mango and red-billed streamertail hummingbirds while in Jamaica. The above photo is a screen shot taken during the video.

 This video shows each of the species defending their feeder very aggressively. Loud noises can be heard as their bodies clash together even while they are off camera.

Paul and I enjoyed our trip to Rocklands Bird Sanctuary in Anchovy, Jamaica. It was my favorite part of the whole cruise. 

The red-billed streamertail hummingbird is Jamaica's national bird. 

We were given little bottles of sugar water and the hummingbirds were accustomed to the bottles and would feed from them. This red-billed streamer tail hummingbird landed on my husband’s finger to feed.

I enjoyed feeding them too!

I took this video of the hummingbird feeding. The speed of the video was slow as the lighting was dark, but I love watching its wings in slow motion.
